Which Foot First?

Do you ever feel like you’re standing still because you don’t know which foot to put forward first?

I do. Often, actually.

It’s a sensation I’ve come to recognise. Not as failure or indecision, but as a kind of pause. A moment of quiet in the noise, when I’m standing at a crossroads (or maybe just at a bend) unsure which direction will feel most me. It’s the omnivert in me showing up in my business. The part of me that loves getting out there, meeting people, and having real conversations. And the part of me that equally needs solitude to recharge, to go inward and make sense of everything.

This duality shows up in more places than I care to admit. Social media is a perfect example. I can show up fully when I’m in the right headspace, but I also disappear entirely sometimes, and I don’t mind saying I’m okay with that.

Just yesterday, I was chatting with a very good friend when I realised something surprising. If I left social media tomorrow, I think my business would be just fine. Nearly everything I do comes from word of mouth, from Google, and from those meaningful face-to-face connections that build trust far better than an algorithm ever could.

Connection is at the heart of what I do. Not just in the portraits I create, but in the way I build and hold space for my client communities. Lately, I’ve been exploring new ways to nurture that connection, offline and on. One of those ideas is quietly taking shape behind the scenes. A gathering of sorts. I’m not quite ready to share the details, but I can already feel how special it’s going to be.

Another way I’m deepening that sense of connection is through the Story-Teller series. This series gives me the chance to sit down with some truly remarkable women, to photograph them, and to share the story behind what they do and why it matters. It’s honest, intentional, and rooted in the kind of connection that has always been more important to me than just “marketing.”

The next round of Story-Teller sessions is coming up, and I’d love you to take a look. If you’ve been feeling the pull to step forward and be seen, even if you’re not quite sure which foot to put forward first, maybe this is the sign you were waiting for.

For now, I’m letting myself honour the pause. Trusting that stillness is part of the movement. That whichever step comes next, it will be the right one… or the left one… the sun will rise regardless.

Until next time,
